Cami dels Cavalls: Touring the coast of Menorca
Location
It's a path that circles the entire island and already existed in the 14th century. Currently, it's 184 kilometers long. As it's a circular route, you can start at any point, and kilometer zero is located in Culàrsega, near the Port of Maó.
Best time to do the route
The months of June to September are the best time to discover the dozens of coves and beaches that are, in reality, the biggest attraction of the island.
GR 223 Route - Cami de Cavalls
It has been officially designated as the GR 223 long-distance trail and is marked with information panels at the start of each stage (twenty in total). There's no need to hike the entire route: simply walk a section, such as the one from Es Grau to the Favaritx lighthouse in the northern area, surrounded by black and grey slate cliffs. This section takes about three and a half hours and passes by the coves of Es Tamarells, Sa Torreta, and Morella, as well as the beaches of Es Grau and d'en Tortuga.
Complete the route
Take the opportunity to enjoy Menorca. Its beautiful nature, its lovely beaches, the Mediterranean charm of its towns, and the prehistoric architecture scattered throughout its countryside will not leave you indifferent.
Interesting facts
This route is called the Horse Trail because English soldiers used to patrol it on horseback. At that time, these soldiers were responsible for defending these coasts.
In some sections you won't find accommodations or shops where you can buy water and refresh yourself. You need to be prepared. We advise you to carry a backpack full of supplies and plenty of ice-cold water in a reusable bottle .
